April 26, 2018 -- Three members of the Emerging Pathogens Institute were recognized for their achievements in international research and education Wednesday at a UF/IFAS awards ceremony.
The recipients, Drs. Donald Behringer, Karen Garrett, and Monika Oli, are members of both UF IFAS and UF EPI and received accolades for their efforts to address international concerns in agriculture and the life sciences through research and education.
Behringer won the 2018 IFAS Global International Fellow award in acknowledgement of his many international research projects, including ongoing studies of crustaceans such as spiny lobsters and blue crabs in the Caribbean, South America and Europe.
Garrett won the IFAS Global International Achievement award for work that includes helping to develop international programs for the UF Institute for Sustainable Food Systems and for serving as an adviser on the Feed the Future Haiti AREA project.
Oli received the Internationalizing Student Education award for situating much of her teaching in a global context. She helps organize study abroad programs across Europe and runs an award-winning online class called "Microbes Without Borders."
