Scientist receives continued Gates foundation funding for diarrheal diseases

Volker Mai, an assistant professor with joint appointments in EPI and the UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, recently received funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to examine how molecular tools can be used to detect viruses related to diarrheal diseases.  Mai, who collaborates with University of Maryland scientists on this project, has used previous Gates funding to conduct diarrheal disease research in Mali, The Gambia, Kenya, and India. This new grant expands research to China.
