Institute director visits Haitian school of medicine construction site

Dr. J. Glenn Morris, Jr., director of the Emerging Pathogens Institute at the University of Florida, visited the construction site for the Université d’État d’Haiti Faculté de Médicine et de Pharmacie in Port-au-Prince, Haiti during his trip to the country last May. The university’s school of medicine collapsed during the 2010 Haiti earthquake and is being rebuilt with funding from USAID.

The University of Florida has a collaborative agreement with the medical school, and researchers at the Emerging Pathogens Institute worked closely with Dr. Jean-Claude Cadet, dean of the school of medicine at the University of Haiti, to design the biochemistry laboratories.

Construction is ongoing at the site and current projections suggest the dedication will take place on July 20.
