Event Details

When is the event?

EPI Research Day 2025 will occur on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where is event?

EPI Research Day 2025 will be held at the University of Florida Reitz Union Grand Ballroom. For more details, please visit the Reitz Union location landing page.

Who is speaking at the event?

The EPI has invited two renowned researchers to give keynote talks at EPI Research Day 2025. Peter J. Hotez, M.D., Ph.D., Dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine, will give a talk on “Vaccines in an era of global boiling and rising anti-science.” Sarah Gunter, Ph.D., an assistant professor at Baylor University College of Medicine, will give a talk titled, “Emerging vector-borne and neglected tropical disease risk in the Americas.”

Will there be transportation to and from the event?

The EPI will offer a shuttle service from the EPI building circular driveway to the Reitz Union driveway from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Will there be parking at the event?

Free parking will be available at the Reitz Union until 10 a.m. Closer to the event date, we will email registrants a coupon code to enter, along with their license plate number, into the kiosk by the elevator on the lower level. Event Deadlines

When is the registration deadline?

Event registration closes at noon on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2025.

When is the abstract submission deadline?

Abstract submissions close at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025. Late submissions will not be entered in the EPI Research Day 2025 Book of Abstracts. No exceptions will be allowed.

Will there be a competition this year?

Yes. The EPI will host an undergraduate, pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, and early-stage investigator poster competition. For additional details, please visit the poster competition information page.

Who is eligible for the undergraduate research poster competition?

UF undergraduate students (bachelor’s) can enter the undergraduate research poster competition.

Who is eligible for the pre-doctoral research poster competition?

UF graduate students (doctoral and master’s) can enter the pre-doctoral research poster competition.

Who is eligible for the post-doctoral research poster competition?

UF post-doctoral fellows/associates, residents, and fellows can enter the post-doctoral research poster competition.

Who is eligible for the early-stage investigator poster competition?

UF faculty must be within five years of their appointment for eligibility. The following positions at UF are eligible to enter the early-stage investigator competition:

  • Assistant scientist or assistant scholar
  • Assistant extension scientist
  • Assistant research professor, assistant professor, or clinical assistant professor.

What is the award for the competition winner?

In each competition, the first-place winner receives a $1,000 award, the second-place winner receives a $500 award, and the third-place winner receives a $250 award.

Who judges the competition?

Judging staff, comprised of EPI senior faculty leadership, will review each submission and poster before EPI Research Day to select the finalists. Winners will be announced at the end of the event.

When do I need to submit to be eligible?

Abstracts must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. ET on Sunday, Feb. 9, to be eligible for the poster competition. There are no exceptions for late submissions to be eligible for the poster competition.

When will the winners be announced?

Finalists will be notified before the event, and winners will be announced at the end of the event.

How big can the poster be?

The poster boards are four feet tall and five feet wide.

What size font should I use on the poster?

The font size should be at least 14 pt. for paragraph text and 18 pt. for sub-titles. 36 pt. text or larger is ideal for the poster title. Sans serif fonts are best for paragraph body texts. You’d like to ensure your poster can be read from a distance.

When do I set up my poster?

All presenters must set up their posters the day before the event. Details on the exact time to set up will be announced closer to the event.

Do I need to be at my poster the entire session?

If you are notified as a finalist, you need to be at your poster during the entire poster session, which is from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you are not a finalist, you do not need to be at your poster the entire session.

Can I still bring my poster and present if I do not submit an abstract?

Because space is limited, we cannot guarantee that you can still present if you do not submit an abstract.
